Born in California's Bay Area, Erik learned to play by watching the family player piano. It wasn't long until he was stacking synths on top of it. Influenced be local rockers such as Journey and Santana, he began playing with anybody and everybody. After honing his skills playing venues such as Mabuhay Gardens and The Keystone, his hunger for more complex musical arrangements led him to the world of Progressive Rock. It was then that keyboardists such as Kieth Emerson and Rick Wakeman became his teachers.
A series of life changes led him to Appalachian Mountains where he became a full time lighting director for a touring band. Nine years in this field gave him the opportunity to work with groups such as Kansas, Marshal Tucker, Molly Hatchet and The Mamma's and the Pappas to name only a few.
After watching the group Restless Heart perform in Greensboro, the drive to shred keys overcame him once again and before long he was back in the saddle. Now with a new more mature taste and approach to music, It was all about Jazz! He got busy playing in four bands where at one point he found himself in front of 26,000 people at the Greensboro Coliseum. Very much at home in a recording studio, Erik has had the opportunity to perform on numerous projects and it was during one of these that he met Scott Marvill. Enter Jazzen!
